Jerry Morris Murphy went to be with the Lord on February 23, 2020 in Springtown, Texas. Jerry was born on November 21, 1942 to his parents, John James Murphy and Ruby Lee Parrot in Atlanta, Texas.

Jerry loved to rodeo and participate in saddle and bareback bronc riding. His favorite event was bull riding. Jerry competed in numerous rodeos, but it was at Azle Rodeo Arena where he met his loving wife, Betty Marie Dunn.  The two were married in 1968 until her passing. Jerry enjoyed fishing, painting, bronze work, and Western Art. He was an avid writer, who wrote “The Long Way Home”, which is about faith and rodeo. Jerry loved Jesus and Father God; his faith was very important in his life.

Jerry will be deeply and lovingly missed by his daughter, Jeannie Davidson and husband, Rick. Their children, Brandon, Morgan and Brenna. Jerry is also survived by Danny Spear, Bud Murphy and wife, Christy and Larry White; his brother, Pat Murphy and wife, Carol; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; his numerous nieces and nephews; along with other loving family members and dear friends.

Jerry is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Marie Murphy; his parents; one brother; one sister and her husband.


Services to be held at Azle and Lake Worth Funeral Home, 850 North Cardinal Road, Azle, Texas 76020
A Visitation will be held in the Funeral Chapel on Thursday February 27, 2020 from 10:30 - 11:00am.
